Incursions, presentations and activities can be tailored to school requirements.
Waste audits
Assistance is available to schools wishing to conduct a waste audit, including tarps, buckets, tongs and scales.
Interactive waste sorting activity
Schools can request to loan the City’s Waste Sorting Activity, which includes large bin cutouts and icons of a range of items for students to identify which bin they should go in.

Waste Education Day (Suez recoverables)
Full day waste incursion for primary schools that covers how kerbside waste is collected in Kwinana and what happens to it once it leaves their house. Each year group has a session with a waste education officer from Veolia, our waste contractor.
Assembly presentation on waste
Short ten-minute presentation to engage schools with waste. This works well with schools that have limited resources and time.
Plastic Oceans Australasia
The council can fund Plastic Oceans for the first 12 months with education facilitators. Schools are encouraged to imbue and continue with the program throughout the community until single-use plastics are phased out. The comprehensive resources support primary and secondary school students to make positive environmental changes.
School drop-off days
The City will fund and help facilitate a drop-off day for e-waste, pool covers or other items in the community and work with schools as a host.

Schools waste incursion day
Full day waste incursion for primary schools using the GREAT Games activities developed by Recycle Right & WMRC. Up to 400 students can rotate through the game activity stations in just one day.

Battery collection points for schools
We offer a free battery collection point for several schools already in Vincent. Battery bins are collected at the end of each school term.
Environmental grants program
Assists and encourages schools and community groups to undertake environmental projects within Vincent. Our waste and recycling team can help with any waste-related queries and suggest activities and resources for your school. We help you understand the 3 bin FOGO system now operating across all residential properties in Vincent and develop other school programs and activities.

City of Wanneroo
Talking My Language learning resource
A multilingual interactive self-correcting learning resource. This set of materials is designed to assist those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to better understand the three-bin system and how to sort their waste. Included in the kit is a pack of waste sorting cards, three mini bins, a ‘Sorting Your Waste’ flyer, and an activity sheet, which can be used with small groups to help educate and inform. It is available in 11 languages for 3 Bin GO system and 3 Bin FOGO system and can be purchased via online form.

We have household hazardous waste units at several primary schools in Cambridge. These units are emptied on a monthly basis.

- Rubbish to Resource (45 minutes / all age groups / one class per session, 30 min for K-PP).
- This workshop is the introductory workshop and must be completed before any others can be chosen.
- School Waste Audit (2 hours minimum, after lunch / Year 5-6 / Teacher assistance required / one per day).
- Smart Shopping (45 minutes / Years 3-6).
- The World Beneath Our Feet (45 minutes / K-6 / K-PP require teacher and EA assistance).
- Closing the Loop on Organics (45 minutes / K-6 / K-PP require teacher and EA assistance).
Workshops are also offered to day care groups.

Veolia WA ‘Recoverables’ Waste Education councils currently include Armadale, Belmont, Cambridge, Dardanup, Kwinana, Nedlands, Joondalup. Schools in these councils are able to book the following workshops through their local council waste educator or the contact below.
