Join WasteSorted Schools to learn how our program can support your school's journey to reducing waste. You will have opportunities to explore activities aimed at embedding organics learning into curriculum, strategies for avoiding single-use plastics and be shown systems that work in regional schools.
Specifically, we will explore:
- hands-on Worm & Compost curriculum resources for primary and high school
- how to set up whole school systems, e.g. waste-free lunches, green canteens and plastic-free campaigns
- ways to change student & staff behaviours.
We will also hear about support from our wider community and be given time to plan actions together.
Our host, South Kalgoorlie Primary School, will also take us on a short tour of their school, highlighting the projects and infrastructure they have implemented.
The workshop is suitable for primary and secondary school staff, including teachers, principals, administration staff and parents.
The workshop is FREE and teacher relief payments are available for TWO staff from each school.

Join the team from WasteSorted Schools to find out how to get started with waste avoidance and reduction at your school. This workshop is for people who are new to the WasteSorted Schools program.
The workshop will include:
- Assessing school waste
- Becoming an accredited WasteSorted School
- Setting up waste infrastructure
- Engaging your school community
- Resources available
- WasteSorted Schools grants
- Lots of examples of school projects
You will also have the opportunity to explore hands-on and classroom style activities such as:
- The WasteSorted Race
- Making beeswax wraps
- Compost in a Bottle activity

Join the team from WasteSorted Schools and Keep Australia Beautiful Council to learn how to avoid and recover waste, and protect our environment, through litter prevention and waste reduction. This workshop includes:
- a step-by-step guide on how to run a whole school waste and litter prevention program
- loads of resources to take back to your school
- laws relating to litter, social and environmental impacts and behaviour change
- how to get started with waste avoidance and resource recovery projects
- information on how to become an accredited WasteSorted School and apply for grant funding
- resources and incursions available.
In the afternoon we will take a tour to Miller Road Landfill site with the Waste Education Officer from the City of Rockingham..
The workshop is suitable for school staff including teachers, principals, EAs, administration staff, gardeners and parents.

Join the team from WasteSorted Schools and Keep Australia Beautiful Council to learn how to avoid and recover waste, and protect our environment, through litter prevention and waste reduction. Explore practical 'earth-cycling' strategies to process organic waste through composting and worm farming and close the loop on organic recycling by feeding this to your edible food gardens.
The workshop will include:
- Step-by-step guide on how to run a whole school waste and litter prevention program in your community
- Closing the loop strategies and systems of organic recycling
- Lots of resources especially for integrating organics into the curriculum
- Hands-on activities
- Examples from other schools

This event is for secondary school students who want to drive change in waste and sustainability at their school. Hear from other secondary students about successful waste management and sustainability practices they have implemented. They will share ideas and experiences about what they have set up, how they run it, and how they engage the rest of the school.
Tours of Emmanuel Catholic College will be on offer to see their sustainability in action.
There will also be a guest speaker, sustainability stall holders, a chance to network with students from other high schools, and light refreshments provided.
