Position statement on waste to energy
The Waste avoidance and resource recovery strategy 2030 (waste strategy) aims to move Western Australia towards a sustainable, low-waste circular economy in which human health and the environment are protected from the impacts of waste.
A key feature of the waste strategy is the inclusion of material recovery targets to support the move towards a more circular economy. The waste strategy also contains a target to recover energy only from residual waste from 2020.
This Position statement on waste to energy sets out the Waste Authority’s views on the role waste to energy should play in supporting Western Australia’s waste strategy and its aim to move towards a more circular economy.
