In October 2009, the Waste Authority released its Recycled organics position statement which confirmed its support for the beneficial use of organic material and underscored the importance of diverting organics from landfill.
Please note: This Recycled organics position statement 2009 predates the State Government’s current waste strategy. Since 2009, two Western Australian waste strategies have been released: Creating the right environment (2012), and the current Waste avoidance and resource recovery strategy 2030 (2019).
The Waste Authority has published various position statements to support the state’s waste strategies. In 2020, position statements on the waste hierarchy, waste to energy, and food organics and garden organics (FOGO) collection systems were updated to align with the latest waste strategy.
