REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE FOR A SUSTAINABLE WA ON AUSTRALIA DAY!
The Australia Day Skyworks is the biggest community event in the Western Australian calendar – and it also creates a massive amount of waste.
The best step you can take is to avoid producing any waste at all.
Can you do a Wastesmart picnic?
- Bring drinks in reusable drink bottles
- Bring food in Tupperware or other reusable containers
- Don’t bring or buy drinking straws
It’s easy! Click here for some ideas from school kids on Wastesmart school lunches.
What can I Recycle at Skyworks?
Recycling at Skyworks is a bit different to recycling at home. You can ONLY recycle:
- Aluminum cans
- Plastic and glass containers (no lids)
How do I Recycle at Skyworks
Dispose your waste in the skips provided. At each location there will be one skip for recyclables and one for other waste.
PLEASE DO NOT CONTAMINATE THE RECYCLING SKIPS
Only put aluminum cans, and plastic and glass containers in the recycling skips. If anything else goes in them, the recyclables are contaminated and may not be able to be recycled.
This is particularly important to remember at the end of night!
… or Take Your Recyclables Home
If you do end up producing waste on the day that can be recycled at home, but not at Skyworks, take your waste home with you. An example of this might be a newspaper you brought along to read.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Zones
There will be a number of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Zones on the City of Perth and City of South Perth foreshores.
Take a bag of Recycling to them and receive a reward!
