Update on Achievements

January - March 2013

  • A significant success with the establishment of a WMAA Composting Project in partnership with Western Dairy, which has brought approx $17,000 of Federal funding into the compost activity. This project is training a number of leading dairy farmers to compost their dairy organic wastes and is expected to result in wider adoption of composting and the use of compost products in the agricultural industry
  • Program developed for the Odour Management Mini-Symposium 7 May 2013 to coincide with Compost Awareness Week. Neil Foley is scheduled to open this event
  • Assisted Perth International Arts Festival with an organic recycler for the festival
  • Meetings with Department of Agriculture and Food WA (DAFWA) to discuss opportunities for fertilizer partnership working groups and collaboration with the food manufacturing sector
  • Promoted the provision of recycled organics for Garden Week (mid-April 2013) which resulted in a successful EOI for Nutrarich
  • Planning for the C&D forum to be held on 25 July 2013
  • Commenced planning for the Perth C&I Supply Chain Workshop which will be held in the morning of 27 June 2013 at the Maylands Public Golf Course.  The C&I regional forum is likely to be held in October in the South West
  • Industry Development Manager (IDM) invited to be on the DEC working group for best practice event waste management guidelines
  • IDM appointed as WMAA’s representative on the DEC Licensing and Regulation Stakeholder Reference Group. First meeting is 8 May 2013
  • IDM will present on Soils Engineering for Re-vegetation Success at the Mining Rehabilitation Conference in Queensland mid-June 2013
  • IDM invited to present at Environmental Management for the Mining Sector Conference in Perth (19-21 August 2013) on Incorporating Innovative Solutions to Waste Management within the Mining Industry.
