The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) is Australia’s peak representative body for all segments of the urban development industry. UDIA is committed to sustainable urban development and has an EnviroDevelopment program, which is a national scientifically-based branding system designed to make it easier for purchasers to recognise and, thereby, select more environmentally sustainable developments.
EnviroDevelopment was launched in WA three years ago and has six elements covering Ecosystems, Community, Water, Energy, Waste and Materials. The standards required for EnviroDevelopment certification have been determined by a panel of government, industry and environmental experts.
Certification in any one of the EnviroDevelopment elements is a significant achievement, with a number of elements signifying a truly outstanding sustainable development project. Certification of the Waste element requires outstanding achievements in the management of waste products through comprehensive waste management procedures and practices to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
