Plastic bag ban

From 1 July 2018, lightweight single-use plastic bags will be banned statewide in Western Australia. The latest media release from the Minister is available here.

The discussion paper, Implementing a lightweight single-use plastic bag ban in Western Australia, seeks feedback on how the Government can reduce the impact of lightweight single-use plastic bags.

It focuses on the Government’s preferred option, which is to implement a statewide ban, and seeks input on the impact of the preferred approach.

The paper considers how retailers and consumers can prepare for the proposed changes.

Following the public consultation period, the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation will analyse submissions and make recommendations to the Minister for Environment.
