New board for WA’s Waste Authority

Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Environment announced the new members of the Waste Authority in a media release on 10 July 2019. On 21 August 2019 he attended the inaugural meeting of the new Waste Authority. He welcomed and thanked new members for their interest in being on the Waste Authority and taking up the challenge of delivery on the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 Action Plan in partnership with state and local government, industry and communities.

Waste Authority members discussed a range of issues including a review of progress against the action plan and the Waste Authority's Business Plan. Members discussed actions that require cooperation between the Waste Authority, the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and other government agencies. These inter-dependent actions will be discussed as part of meetings to be scheduled with the Chairman of the Waste Authority, the Director General of DWER and directors general of other relevant government agencies. Members approved a delegation policy to streamline governance between the Authority and DWER. They also discussed the proposed recipients of the Waste Wise Schools' ten-year accreditation program.

The Waste Authority has agreed to meet every two months. The next meeting of the will occur on 30 October 2019, and will be preceded by a breakfast meet-and-greet that is currently being organised by the Western Australian Local Government Association for its members.
